David W. Davidson, O.D.
Dr. David W. Davidson, O.D., has been an optometrist for over 40 years. Most of those years he has been in optometric education. He was on the faculty at the University of Alabama in Birmingham for 10 years and he was Associate Dean and a member of the faculty at the University of Missouri in St. Louis for 17 years.
In 1998 Dr. Davidson became the Director of Clinical Examinations for the National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO). He continued in that position until the National Board moved in 2005. Perhaps one of the efforts Dr. Davidson is most remembered for was his early efforts at helping optometrists computerize their practices. When personal computers were just starting to become popular, Dr. Davidson became the chief editor of the magazine “Optometric Computing” and he co-authored a book by the same title.
Dr. Davidson was an invited speaker at numerous optometric conventions, speaking on the topic of computerizing the front office in optometric practice. In the ‘80’s Dr. Davidson established the first computerized bulletin board and chat group devoted to optometry, utilizing a technology that actually preceded the Internet.
